Peru, Republic. A Cross of Military Merit, II Class Grand Officer Star

(Cruz Peruana al Mérito Militar), Instituted in 1949. In bronze gilt with red, white and green enamels, marked "CORONEL FRANCISCO BOLOGNESI" (Colonel Francisco Bolognesi Cervantes, 1816-1880, Peruvian military general) on the reverse, measuring 79.2 mm (w) x 78.5 mm (h), vertical pinback, intact enamels, edge nick on the edge of the arm at 6 o'clock, scuffing on the arm at 9 o'clock, near extremely fine.

Footnote: The Cross of Military Merit was instituted in February 1949 and is awarded to members of the armed forces for distinguished service in defence of the country, in five grades: Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer and Knight.
