Germany, Wehrmacht. A Panzer Assault Badge, Silver Grade, AS-Marked

(Panzerkampfabzeichen in Silber). Constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, around a central Panzer IV rolling over grassy terrain, with its left tread extending beyond the edge of the wreath, the reverse with a ball hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, maker marked “AS” within a triangle for a widely-encountered by unidentified manufacturer, measuring 42.73 mm (w) x 62.82 mm (h), weighing 22.6 grams, demonstrating near-total loss of silver finish with minor oxidation, in very fine condition.
