Germany, Luftwaffe. A Dark Blue Flight Jacket

(Luftwaffe Fliegerjacke für Jagdflieger). A Luftwaffe fighter pilot’s winter jacket, constructed of a weather-hardened light blue cotton blend. It features a turned-down collar lined on the top with a fine dark grey-blue velvet. A hidden leather strap with two snap buttons emanates from the left side and meets magnetic metal studs set into the opposite side, with an additional loop, for a secure closure. Each sleeve has a zipper fastening closed with a functional snap button. A single pocket opening with a reinforced vertical slit is set into the upper left breast. The interior is fully encompassed by a dark grey-blue velvet liner which continues uninterrupted from the collar. Unmarked, the jacket measures approximately 43 cm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 58 cm, and an overall body length of 64 cm. Extensive oxidation of the metal fixtures consistent with age and damp storage conditions is evident, in addition to minor material fatigue through the base material. This field-used example remains in a very fine condition.
