Germany, Luftwaffe. A Rare Pilot’s Badge, Aluminum Version, by F.W. Assmann & Söhne

(Flugzeugführerabzeichen). Constructed of aluminum, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, overlaid by a swooping German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, the reverse with two visible rivets securing the obverse eagle in place, with an integral hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, maker marked with the logo of F.W. Assmann & Söhne, Lüdenscheid, measuring 62.47 mm (w) x 53.58 mm (h), weighing 9.9 grams, the eagle has slightly loosened from its fittings, lost most of its patinated finish, and some its features have been worn smooth, a rare thin wreath aluminum version in very fine condition.
