Constructed of blackened magnetic iron, the obverse bearing a raised personification of death in the form of a skeleton affixed to a pair of skis and wielding a rifle mounted to a bipod (in reference to the mountain combat characteristic of the Italian Front), the reverse bearing a raised inscription of “DEM HERZOG VON AOSTRA” (“TO THE DUKE OF AOSTA”, in reference to Prince Emanuele Filiberto, commander of the Italian Third Army), situated within a stylized wreath, the obverse sculptor marked “W. EBERBACH” for Wilhelm Eberbach, the reverse marked with the logo of an unidentified foundry, measuring 70 mm in diameter, in extremely fine condition.
