Sudan, Republic. An Order of the Republic, I Class Grand Cross Star, c.1965

Instituted in 1961. Four-piece construction, insignia in silver gilt with red, white, green, black and navy blue enamels, mounted to a two-piece tiered base in silver with red enamels, each of the two tiers with twelve large emanating rays, with nine smaller emanating rays between each large ray, measuring 98.5 mm (w) x 98.5 mm (h), vertical pinback, intact enamels, very light contact, near extremely fine.

Footnote: The Order of the Republic was instituted on November 16, 1961 and is awarded to both the Sudanese and foreigners who provided great services to the state in five classes. The Order have two types: Type I: Governor General issue with a rhinoceros suspension and Type II: Democratic Republic of Sudan issue with the emblem of the Republic suspension.
