Constructed of a silvered bronze alloy, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a crossed hammer and pickaxe, overlaid by a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing an inscription of “FÜR VERDIENSTE IM GRUBENWEHRWESEN” (“FOR MERIT IN MINE RESCUE”), unmarked, measuring 35.11 mm in diameter, weighing 17.3 grams (inclusive of ribbon), an excellent early strike, with mirror finish in the fields, excellent frosting, age evident, but in near mint condition condition and excellent example.
