Bastille Day Commemorative Merchants Token, 1792 - Bronze, obverse illustrating a group of soldiers at the right pointing at a seated Marianne at the left holding a tablet, surrounded by the inscription "VIVRE LIBRES OU MOURIR" (Live Free or Die), artist signed "DUPRE F." on the raised platform under Marianne and inscribed "14 JUILLET. 1790" (July 14, 1790) below, reverse is inscribed MEDAILLE DE CONFIANCE DE CINQ SOLS REMBOURSABLE EN ASSIGNATS DE 50 ET AU DESSUS / L'AN IV DE LA LIBERTE" (Medal of Confidence in Five Soils Redeemable at 50 and Above / 4th Year of Freedom) in the centre and surrounded by the inscription "MONNERON FRERES NEGOCIANS A PARIS 1792" (Monneron Merchant Brothers of Paris 1792), inscribed on the edge "DEPARTEMENTS DE PARIS DE RHONE. DE LOIRE. ET DU GARD" (Departments of Paris, Rhone, Loire and Gard), 39.5 mm, ring suspension added, exhibiting surface wear and bruising, better than fine.
