A Rare Canadian Cadet Medal for Bravery on the Tickle River 1962

Canadian Cadet Medal of Bravery, Corporal William J. Vincent, RCAC. RARE - Silver, engraved to "CORPORAL WILLIAM JAMES VINCENT 511 (HUMBER) RCAC SQN CORNERBROOK NFLD  2 SEPTEMBER 1962" on the reverse, 36.7 mm, original ribbon, hanger inscribed "CANADA" with pinback, light contact, very fine.  Footnote: William J. Vincent of 511 Humber Squadron, Corner Brook, Newfoundland earned the Canadian Cadet Medal of Bravery, when he risked his own life to save a young girl, Ruby Tulk, from the drowning waters of the Tickle River on September 22, 1962. The presentation of the medal was made in 1963 by Group Captain A.G. Dagg, Commanding Officer, RCAF Station Summerside, who praised Vincent for saving her life, especially since he was a non-swimmer. The Cadet Medal of Bravery may be awarded to a cadet (Army, Air, Sea) who performs an outstanding deed of valour, involving risk of his or her life, in attempting to save the life or property of another person. Since its inception in 1948, the medal was been known to be awarded only nineteen times, making this an extremely rare medal.
