He signed his Attestation Paper with the 69th Battery, Canadian Field Artillery on May 8, 1917 in Toronto, Ontario, just three days shy of his nineteenth birthday, naming his next-of-kin as his mother, Alice Pritchard of Niagara Falls, stating that he had no previous military service, that he was Single and that his trade was that of Munition Work
