Footnote: Walter Keats Buck was born on March 25, 1870 in Burrampur Madras Pres., India. He signed his Attestation Paper with the 4th Infantry Battalion on September 23, 1914 at Valcartier Camp, Quebec, naming his next-of-kin as the Canadian Bank of Commerce, corner of Carleton & Portage in Winnipeg, Manitoba, stating that he had four years' previous military service, that he was married and that his trade was that of Accountant. The Battalion was raised in Central Ontario with mobilization headquarters at Camp Valcartier, Quebec under the authority of P.C.O. 2067, August 6, 1914. The Battalion sailed October 3, 1914 under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel R.H. Labatt, with a strength of 42 officers and 1,084 other ranks.
