1801 Danish Defence of Copenhagen Medal  - Silver, obverse illustrating a seated woman at the right representing justice, holding scales in her left hand and handing a sword to an armoured soldier standing to her right, inscribed in Latin "GUD OG DEN RETFAERDIGE SAG" (God and the Righteous Cause) above and engraver marked "LOOS", reverse illustrating a soldier, a shield on his left arm and a sword in his right hand, fighting a hydra (multi-headed serpent from Greek mythology), inscribed "FIENDENS OVERMAGT TILBAGEDREVEN" (Powerful Enemy Driven Back) above and "KØBENHAVN D. 2 APRIL 1801" (Copenhagen, April 2, 1801), 39.2 mm, dark patina, light contact and surface wear, edge nicks, near extremely fine.
