He signed his Attestation Paper with No. 5 "Overseas" General Hospital CEF, on June 21, 1915, in Esquimalt, British Columbia, at the age of 35, naming his next-of-kin as his father, Andrew Hamilton of Hove, Sussex, England, stating that he had one years' previous service with the 5th (British Columbia) Field Artillery Regiment in Victoria, British Columbia, that he was not married and that his trade was that of Farmer.
