In silver gilt and enameled insignia on an eight-pointed star base, vaulted, maker marked "FREDERICO COSTA LISBOA" on the reverse cartouche, measuring 81 mm (w) x 81.5 mm (h), vertical pinback, intact enamels, light gilt wear on the wreathing, extremely fine.   Footnote: The order was founded on January 30, 1919, as an award for outstanding civil servants and teachers. It comes in four classes and a medal, with the Portuguese President as Grand Master.
