A Medal of Merit for Italian Schools Abroad; Bronze Grade - Bronze, 30.3 mm, original ribbon, edge nicks, near extremely fine. Footnote: The medal was established by Royal Decrees N.6567 on December 8, 1889 and N.395 on August 23, 1894, establishing regulations for Italian schools abroad. These regulations varied by type of educational institution. Regulations were defined for nursery schools, boys’ and girls’ primary schools, evening and Sunday schools for adults and secondary schools. Certificates and the Medal of merit for the Italian Schools Abroad (Medaglia al merito delle Scuole Italiane all'Estero) are were made available by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ministero degli Esteri) and awarded by the Royal Agent or the headmaster to teachers who had made themselves useful towards achieving the objectives of the school, as stipulated in the decrees. The medal was awarded in three degrees: gold, silver and bronze.
