A First War Belgian Medal of Liège 1914 - Bronze, 34 mm, ring suspension, without ribbon, oxidation spots on the obverse, very light contact, near extremely fine. Footnote: The Medal of Liège was a campaign medal awarded by the city of Liège to its defenders against the German attack in 1914. It was awarded for the first time in April 1920, in a ceremony presided over by the Duke of Brabant (the future King Leopold III) and Lieutenant-General Count Gérard Leman, military commander of the defenses of Liege during the battle that took place from August 5 to 16, 1914. The fierce defense of the city forced the Germans to use a very large caliber artillery specialist against the fortifications.
