A First War Medal Pair to the Canadian Machine Gun Brigade - British War Medal (285334 PTE. E.J. BRACE. C.M.G. BDE.); and Victory Medal (285334 PTE. E.J. BRACE. C.M.G. BDE.). Naming is officially impressed. Un-mounted, original ribbons, very dark patina on the BWM, oxidation spots on the VM, light contact, very fine. Footnote: Ernest John Brace was born on October 7, 1888 in Kent, England. He was a resident of West Toronto, Ontario when he signed his Attestation Paper with the 220th Infantry Battalion "York Rangers", on May 22, 1916 in Toronto, naming his next-of-kin as his wife, Mrs. Ada Brace, stating that was with an Active Militia, the 12th York Rangers, that he had two years' previous service with the Royal Canadian Engineers, that he was Married and that his trade was that of Butcher. The Battalion was raised in Toronto, Ontario with mobilization headquarters at Toronto under the authority of G.O. 69, July 15, 1916. The Battalion sailed April 29, 1917 under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel B.H.Brown with a strength of 18 officers and 446 other ranks. In England, the Battalion was absorbed into the 3rd Reserve Battalion, with Private Brace being transferred later to the Canadian Machine Gun Brigade.
