An 1856 Issued Battle of Balaclava Medal - White metal, obverse illustrates Lord Cardigan leading a line of lancers over the Russian cannon, inscribed "BALAKLAVA" above and engraver marked "PINCHES", reverse listing all the regiments, corps and divisions who were present at the battle, inscribed "1st DIVISION / GRENADIER GUARDS / COLDSTREAM GUARDS / SCOTS FUSILIER GUARDS / 42nd 79th AND 93rd REGts / 4TH DIVISION / 63rd 20th 21st AND 57th REGts / 2 COMPANIES OF THE 46th REGt / 68th REGt / 1st BATTn RIFLES / CAVALRY DIVISION / 4th & 5th Dn Gds 1st 2nd & 6th Dns / 4th 8th 11th 13th & 17th LIGHT DRAGOONS / ROYAL ARTILLERY / ROYAL ENGINEERS" and dated "OCTr 25th 1854" below, 41.5 mm, casting flaw on the reverse, light contact, better than very fine. Footnote: This medal is one of a set of three which were struck in either silver, bronze or white metal by the firm of John Pinches Limited. They were usually sold with two other similar medals, commemorating the Battles of Alma and Inkerman.
