Germany, Heer. An Army Supply Service Grain/Potato Sack 1943

This bag is fabricated from Hessian (called Burlap in North America), a woven fabric usually made from skin of the jute plant or sisal fibres or may be combined with other vegetable fibres, stitched on three sides and open at the top. It is stamped in black ink with a large left-facing eagle standing upon a oak leaf wreathed swastika insignia on the front and "H.Vpfl." (Heeres-Verpflegung = Army Supply Service) over the date "1943" on the back. It measures 695 mm x 1,230 mm, folded into eight panels, lip rolled back at the the top, with scattered interruptions in the fabric and light soiling throughout. Better than very fine.
