A First War Pair to the 25th Infantry Battalion

Un-mounted, dark patina on the BWM, spotting and gilt wear on the VM, light contact, very fine. Footnote: John Fletcher was born on October 3, 1895 in Yarmouth, Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia. He signed his Attestation Paper as a Private (67099) with the 25th Infantry Battalion, on November 12, 1914, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, at the age of 19, naming his next-of-kin as his father, Charles Fletcher of Halifax, stating that he had "enrolled" at Yarmouth but had no previous military service, that he was not married and that his trade was that of Labourer. Fletcher is listed on the Nominal Roll of the 25th Infantry Battalion. The Battalion was raised in Nova Scotia and mobilized in Halifax under the authority of G.O. 36, March 15, 1915. The Battalion sailed May 20, 1915 under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel G.A. LeCain with a strength of 42 officers and 1,081 other ranks. The Battalion served in France and Belgium with the 5th Infantry Brigade, 2nd Canadian Division, with Fletcher surviving the war.
