A Dominican Republic Order of Merit of Juan Pablo Duarte by Godet, Berlin

Five-piece construction, silver gilt with blue and white enamels, 41.8 mm x 64.7 mm inclusive of its wreath suspension, large rosette on its original ribbon, intact enamels, scattered gilt wear, very light contact, near extremely fine. In its hardshelled case of issue, Dominican Republic coat-of-arms on the lid, maker marked "Gebr. Godet & Co BERLIN W.8. Charlottestr. 55" on the inside lid, lightly soiled recessed medal bed, scuffed exterior, wear in the fabric overlaying the hinged area, case very fine.

Footnote: The Order of Merit of Duarte, Sánchez and Mella (Orden al Mérito de Duarte, Sánchez y Mella) is the principal order of the Dominican Republic. It was established on February 24, 1931 as the Juan Pablo Duarte Order of Merit and renamed on September 9, 1954. The Head of State confers the order, both to civilians and military personnel for distinguished services.
