White porcelain, glazed, underglaze green manufacture mark "SS-Allach" within an octagon, designer marked "T. KÄRNER" (Professor Theodor Kärner) and model numbered "81" on the bottom, figurine illustrating the child monk emblem that appears on the City of Munich's coat-of-arms, with a book in his lowered left hand and a scroll in his raised right hand, standing upon a pedestal base, 56 mm x 79 mm x 171 mm in height, free of chipping and contact marks. Near mint.
Footnote: The coat of arms of Munich (Münchner Wappen) depicts a young monk dressed in black holding a red book. It has existed in a similar form since the 13th century, though at certain points in its history it has not depicted the central figure of the monk at all. As the German name for Munich, München, means of Monks, the monk in this case is a self-explanatory symbol (canting arms) who represents the city of Munich.
