He was Overseas Navy, serving out of Portsmouth and was one of eighty-six members of the Royal Navy who were awarded the Meritorious Service Medal by the Admiralty, as announced in the Third Supplement to the London Gazette 31461, of Tuesday, July 15, 1919, on Thursday, July 17, 1919, page 9111 and the Edinburgh Gazette of Friday, July 25, 1919, page 2547.
