British-made, steel, non-magnetic, in bluish-gray with a smooth finish, red stencilled Canadian Engineers insignia painted on the front. The protective edge of the helmet in a magnetic steel. Inside is missing its steel-framed cradle, however, the supporting blackened canvas liner with underlying cotton linen support and leather backer, along with mesh support and drawstring remains intact, stamped "HS 55" ("HS" indicating the manufacturer, Hadfield Limited of Sheffield (1916-1919); and "55" the steel batch number) on the underside of the helmet at the back, with pressed khaki fabric but no rubber ring in the dome, missing its leather chinstrap but the supporting strap that is riveted to the dome remains intact, measuring 297 mm x 307 mm x 120 mm, exhibiting one dent on the top, scattered white paint speckling and wear evident on the exterior and underlying lip, surface rust in the dome, better than very fine.
