12th German Singers' League 1937 Festival at Breslau Flag Weight - Blackened iron, obverse illustrating a standing man in the Greek-style, his body posed frontwards, with his head turned to the right, his right foot raised and resting upon a rock, his right hand firmly grasping a lyre and supporting it with his arm, reverse with the Deutsches Sängerbund in the centre flanked by the dates "1862" and "1937", swastikas at the bottom and bottom, inscribed "12.DEUTSCHES SÄNGERBUNDESFEST UND FEIER DES 75 JÄHRIGEN" above and "BESTEHENS DES DEUTSCHEN SÄNGERBUNDES BRESLAU 28-7-1-8" below, 93 mm, integral ring suspension, spots of surface rust on the reverse, extremely fine.
Footnote: The 12th German Singers' League (Deutsches Sängerbund) Festival at Breslau commemorated the 75th Anniversary of the founding of the organization in 1862. It was held from July 28 to August 1, 1937, with over 100,000 singers participating. It was the last and at the same time the most powerful rally of the Silesian Sängerbund under President Emil Fuchs (1883-1972), before the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939.
