Two-piece construction, bronze gilt and enamels, engraved "CHARLES J. SZULEWSKI 11020256" on the reverse, 35 mm x 43.5 mm, original ribbon with brooch pinback, intact enamels, very light contact, extremely fine. Accompanied by its 3.5 mm x 17 mm enameled Ribbon Bar with "A.E. CO. UTICA, N.Y." maker marked button hole attachment, in its hardshelled case of issue, marked "PURPLE HEART" on the lid, a few indentations on the lid, scattered spotting on the bottom, case better than very fine.
Footnote: Charles J. Szulewski was born on August 27, 1921 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He had four years of high school education, was single and was skilled in the production of baked goods, when he enlisted as a Private (11020256) with the Army on September 20, 1940, in Boston, Massachusetts. He was placed with the Medical Department in the Philippines theater. He was released from active service on November 17, 1945. Szulewski died on April 22, 2005, at Debary Manor in Debary, Florida, at the age of 83, survived by his wife, Loretta, his two sons, Charles and Robert, his daughter Kathleen and six grandchildren.
