A Royal Military College Cross Country Medal to Lieutenant-Colonel George Edward Knox-Peebles, DSO, Royal Tank Regiment, Cased: Bronze, obverse illustrating a coat-of-arms in the centre surrounded by the inscription "ROYAL MILITARY COLLEGE", reverse engraved "CROSS COUNTRY RUN / 1922 / Won by No. 1 Coy / G.E. Knox-Peebles" inside an open-ended wreath of laurel leaves and engraver marked "PHILLIPS ALDERSHOT", 45 mm, extremely fine. In its hardshelled case of issue, maker marked "E. Phillips Medallist ALDERSHOT" on the inside lid, wear in the fabric overlying the hinged area, scuffed exterior, case better than fine. Footnote: Captain George Edward Knox-Peebles (28116) was promoted to Major effective January 31, 1941, the announcement appearing in the Supplement to the London Gazette 35059 of Tuesday, January 28, 1941, on Friday, January 31, 1941, page 616. Major (Acting Lieutenant-Colonel) Knox-Peebles, 8th Battalion, Royal Tank Regiment was awarded the Distinguished Service Order for "gallant and distinguished services in the Middle East" (Egypt and Libya), the announcement appearing in the Second Supplement to the London Gazette 35465 of Friday, February 20, 1942, on Tuesday, February 24, 1942, page 893. Major Knox-Peebles retired from active service and was granted the honourary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, the announcement appearing in the London Gazette 38762 of Friday, November 18, 1949, page 5459.
