A French Order of the Lily; Cross of the Lily 1814-1824

(Ordre du Lys, Croix du Lys) : Silver with blue and white enamels, Gold centrepiece on the obverse, 24 mm x 37.5 mm, extensive chipping evident in both the white and blue enamels, fine. Footnote: The Order was created on April 26, 1814 by the Ordinance of the Comte d’Artois (later King Charles X, reigning 1824-1830) acting as Lieutenant General of the Kingdom. It was intended to reward the National Guard of Paris for service in defence of Paris, of order and of the royal family.
