Canada. A Memorial Birks Bar to the Saint John Fusiliers (M.G.) 1940

Sterling silver, officially engraved (FUS. P.C. FITZGERALD / SAINT JOHN FUS. (MG) / DIED IN HIS COUNTRY'S SERVICE / 14 NOV. 1940), 14.5 mm x 67 mm, light contact, near extremely fine. Accompanied by a copy of his Canadian Active Service Force Attestation Paper and assorted research papers. Footnote: Paul Clinton Fitzgerald was born on December 29, 1910 in Lockerville, Kings County, Nova Scotia, the son of Arthur L. Fitzgerald and Sarah A. (Walters) Fitzgerald. He had one sister, Nora Fitzgerald, later Nora Neilson of Saint John, New Brunswick. Fitzgerald was a resident of the Clifton Hotel in Saint John when he signed his Canadian Active Service Force Attestation Paper as a Fusilier (G/32714) with the Saint John Fusiliers (MG), on July 18, 1940 in Saint John, naming his next-of-kin as his sister, Nora Neilson of Saint John, stating that he had no previous military service, that he was Married but was separated by "mutual agreement", that his religion was Baptist and that his trade was that of Bus and Transport Driver. Four months after enlisting, G/32714 Fusilier Paul Clinton Fitzgerald, Saint John Fusiliers (M.G.), R.C.I.C. died on November 14, 1940, at the age of 29. He is buried in Saint John (Fernhill) Cemetery, Saint John, New Brunswick, Grave Reference: Lot 3893. Grave 108 and is commemorated on page 13 of Canada's Second World War Book of Remembrance.
