Fabricated from bakelite with a white finished exterior and red finished underside, the outside of the shell with a 45 mm wide strip of leather stitched in place, which acted as a buffer between the liner and the missing helmet. Inside, the butterscotch-coloured leather headband runs around the circumference, the ends of which are stitched together at the rear, the headband stamped in black ink with the Canadian Broad Arrow insignia on the left side, a white canvas liner stitched in place to the headband with a drawstring at the rear, the lip of the liner with a white canvas overlay and marked in handwritten black ink with the initials "J F M" at the rear, underside of the headband with a navy blue felt pad, with six white canvas straps radiating from underneath the navy blue felt pad and finishing in the dome with a circular brown leather patch stitched in place at the junction of the straps, two pieces of butterscotch-coloured leather stitched to the body of the liner under the canvas lip, the pieces forming ear flaps and integral chin straps, the undersides lined in navy blue cotton, oval holes cut out for the ears, the exterior of the ear pieces with a half-moon shaped leather patch covering the holes and open on the flat side, the integral chin strap with dual snap closures, a leather chin strap with seven holes for length adjustment stitched in place on the right integral chin strap and a short leather strap with adjustable receiving buckle stitched in place on the left integral chin strap, 178 mm x 235 mm x 120 mm in height. Worn but very fine.
