Footnote: A badge of the Kampfgeschwader 3, the so called “Blitz” unit, a Luftwaffe bomber wing, operational between 1939 and 1944. Top: bird with wings spread holding a swastika. Middle: a crest with a bolt of lightning striking it (the unit’s crest that gave it the nickname “Blitz”). Bottom: inscription “KG 3 (Blitz­Geschw.)”, standing for Kampfgeschwader 3 (Blitz­Geschwader).
