A Miniature Punjab Medal to Assistant Surgeon Andrew Wilson M.D

Silver, 1 Clasp - CHILIANWALA (Assist Surgeon A. St A. Wilson. MD. 5th Light Cavy). Naming is engraved in running script, inverted. Original ribbon with pinback, light contact, extremely fine. Accompanied by copies of his United East-India Company Petition, his Baptismal Certificate, a letter of recommendation and the London Gazette 22776 (dated Friday, October 2, 1863, stating that he had been given the honourary rank of Inspector General of Hospitals).Footnote: Andrew Wilson was born on July 5, 1802. He petitioned the United East-India Company in 1827, to proceed to the East Indies as an Assistant Surgeon. He was named an Assistant Surgeon on March 10, 1827 at the age of 24, a Surgeon on September 25, 1843 at the age of 41 and Deputy-Inspector General of Hospitals on July 30, 1858 at the age of 56. Wilson retired on March 31, 1863 at the age of 60. In the London Gazette 22776, page 4743, on Friday, October 2, 1863, Deputy-Inspector General of Hospitals Andrew Wilson was listed as retired with full pay and was awarded the honourary rank of Inspector General of Hospitals.
