Item #G23873

$852
A double-sided HJ & League of German Girls Landjahr pennant - red cotton triangular field with HJ diamond swastika insignia on front side; green and white triangular cotton panels sewn into place with “Landjahr Neversfelde” embossed into obverse side; 48 cm x 71 cm; overall better than very fine condition. Footnote: The Landjahr grew out of a much smaller program initiated in the 1920s. HJ boys (Hitler Jugend = Hitler Youth) and BDM girls (Bund Deutscher Mädel = League of German Girls) served eight months on farms, called the “Landjahr”. The Landjahr program was for youths fourteen years and older, but was only mandatory for university students. It involved a morning salute, farm work, taking care of animals, marching, singing, outdoor games/sports, and communal living while boys also received some military-type training.
