A Waffen-SS 63rd Grenadier Regiment ID Disc

In zinc; the obverse stamped “247 63 W. Gren. Rgt. d. SS” on both sides of the triple slotted centre; three drill holes; measuring 51 mm x 71 mm; better than very fine condition, possibly ground-recovered.

Footnote: The 63rd Waffen-SS Grenadier Regiment was attached to the 25th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS Hunyadi (1st Hungarian). It was established in 1944 following the German overthrow of the Hungarian Regime of Miklos Horthy and consisted mainly of troops drawn from the Royal Hungarian Army’s 13th Honved Division. The 63rd Waffen-SS Grenadier Regiment never saw active action due to being evacuated from its training camp in the face of the rapidly advancing Soviet Red Army.
