A Rare 1836 Mexican Star for the Defence of Matamoros

In gilt bronze and white enamels; the obverse , a five-pointed, white enameled star with a white enamel central medallion with a gilt eagle, surrounded by a white enameled band bearing “Matamoros - En 1836”; the reverse, in a central white enameled medallion in five lines “Combatio Por La Inte Gridad Delter Ritorio Na Cional”; measuring 33 mm x 33 mm; on horizontally-pierced ball for suspension; on original green-white-red ribbon; hairline cracks in enamel of the arms of the star, centre has been carefully re-enameled, otherwise near very fine condition.
