An Exquisite Order of Christ; Breast Star with Brilliants by Frederico Da Costa

Portuguese : Multi-piece construction, silver gilt with red and white enamels, silver-framed cross centrepiece with ten old rose cut diamonds on a violet glass base, wreath with sixteen glass stones, maker marked "FREDERICO DA COSTA LISBOA" on the reverse cartouche, 73.5 mm x 74.2 mm, vertical pinback, cross centrepiece loose, chipping evident in the red enamels on one raised setting, scattered gilt wear, better than very fine. In its hardshelled case of issue, wooden-framed, marked "R. P." (República de Portugal) on the lid, maker marked "Frederico da Costa LISBOA" on the inside lid, soiled raised slotted medal bed, extensive wear and separation evident on the hinged area, scuffed exterior, case fair.
