A Pre-War Private Purchase Wehrmacht Artillery Officer’s Overseas Cap

Item #G26393

$500
This is a stunning and likely one-of-a-kind untouched pre-war private purchase Wehrmacht Artillery Officer’s overseas cap. It is skillfully crafted in extremely soft light-grey wool with fold-down side and back panels with gently sloping, downward scallops toward the front. On both sides of the cap, near the midway point, the cap has one air vent rivet per side; the exterior side enameled grey while the interior side is left plain. The crown and frontward facing sides feature well preserved silver/aluminum braiding, signature to Officer rank overseas caps. In addition, this cap features a machine embroidered, hand attached, embroidered Wehrmacht eagle, crafted out of silvery threads on an olive green backer. Directly below the eagle is a red Waffenfarbe soutache, indicating artillery branch of the Heer (Army), with a tri-colour bullion-made cockade underneath. The inside is lined with a mouse-grey cotton/rayon blend linor with a dark grey coloured sweatband towards the front third of the cap. The sweatband is maker marked “Deutsche Wertarbeit” in the center. The cap measures 285 mm x 110 mm, and is overall very well preserved with scattered light mothing and some spots where the fabric has become thin from age and wear. The exterior wool shell is lightly faded, but the cap is otherwise in very fine condition.
