Constructed with an Army green wool exterior, fold down panels with downward scallops to the front and forward sides, the stitching holding the panels in place at the front behind the cockade having come away, with brass eyelets on either side, both finished in olive green. Sewn in place on the peak on the front is an Army (Heer) tropical eagle in tan and brown machine embroidery, illustrating a left-facing spread-winged eagle, its talons gripping a wreathed swastika below, embroidered tri-colour cockade on a brown background sewn in place on the fold down flap below the eagle. The interior is lined in a brownish-green cotton, marked on the dome in black ink with the maker "H.W. Bachmann", size marked "56", dated "1937" and marked "4. /1.R. 36" over "1". The cap measures 105 x 270 mm, with evidence of mothing at the opening on both sides near the front, exposing the underlying support, two holes on the scalloped edge of the fold down panel on the right side, the stitching intact and free of interruptions in the fabric, very fine.
