A POW Camp ID Tag for allied prisoners housed in the Stalag III-C at Alt Drewitz. The tag is crafted in zinc; the obverse stamped “Stalag III-C”, with the reverse left blank; two drill holes; measuring 60 mm x 19 mm; very fine condition.

Footnote: Stalax III-C was a German Army Prisoner of War camp located at Alt Drewitz near Neumark of the state of Brandenburg, about 80 km east of Berlin. It was first built to house Polish POWs, but also held soldiers from France, Britain, Yugoslavia, Belgium, and from 1943 onward, also Italians. From 1944 onwards, American soldiers were kept there too. Most of the 12,000 Soviet Soldiers were either killed or starved to death by the end of the war. The camp was liberated on January 31, 1945 by the Red Army.
