Footnote: The International Aeronautical Federation awarded a series of proficiency badges to glider pilots on their successful completion of the appropriate tests and gliding trials. The “C” class certificate was awarded for a 5 minute solo flight without loss of altitude, plus an oral examination. The holder of a “C” class certificate was experienced in gliding and soaring.
