This is a period photograph of Kriegsmarine Minesweeper 26 (Minenräumschiff 26). It is currently mounted on a piece of cardboard labelled “MRS 26 - Kommandant Kapitän Georg Meißner” on the reverse. The photograph measures 170 mm x 108 mm on its own, and 246 mm x 193 mm with the cardboard mounting. Overall the photograph is extremely well preserved, being only slightly warped, and with a small blue splotch on the photograph.
Footnote: The German Kriegsmarine Minenraumschiff 26, and her sister ship Minenraumschiff 25 were completed and put into service during the first year of the Second War. Both ships served around the coast of Norway to clear water mines. Although MRS 26 survived the war, MRS 25 unexpectedly sailed directly into a magnetic mine, causing her to sink.
