A Short Etched Bayonet with 10th Company Artillery Portepee

Item #G27243

$336
A short etched bayonet; measuring 397 mm with the scabbard on, featuring a 248 mm nickel-plated steel blade, with dull edge, remaining bright and crisp, and having a semi-sharp tip. It is etched with a banner inscribed "Zur Erinnerung an meine Dienstzeit" (In Memory of my Service Period) and graphics of a German eagle clutching a swastika within an oak wreath and a Wehrmacht helmet. The ricasso is unmarked. The blade exhibits some in-out runner marks common to extraction and return to the scabbard, with a very fine natural shine. The leather washer is missing. The mortise button and lock work well, with the original red felt insert still in the rifle slot. The blade is slightly loose. Crossguard with quillon and pommel exhibit some gilt bubbling and wear, while both plates of the black synthetic grip are firmly held in place by two rivets. The bayonet is accompanied by its black metal (magnetic) scabbard, metal locket at the blade entry end, and ball finial, measuring 274 mm; exhibiting some scuffing. Attached is a dark brown/black stiff leather frog, with a 10th Company Artillery Portepee fabricated from grey, red, and yellow thread; the head in multiple rows of red twisted threading, the acorn in grey embroidery, the stem in a thatched design, with a red cord slider; the acorn measuring 90 mm x 34 mm including the stem; near very fine condition.
