This is a fine Hanoverian Waterloo medal issued to combatants who fought at the Battle of Quatre Bras and Waterloo between June 16th and June 18th 1815. Struck in silver with the naming officially impressed in capitals “Fähnrich Heinrich Schwarze Landwehr Bat. Salzgitter” on the edge, and measuring 34.97 mm in diameter and 3.50 mm in thickness. The medal exhibits light contact and is lightly bruised, but is overall in extremely fine condition.
Footnote: Heinrich Schwarze was promoted to Fähnrich (Flag Bearer) on April 13, 1814 and fought in the Landwehr Bataillon Salzgitter at the Battle of Quatre Bras and Waterloo from June 16-18, 1815 as part of the 3rd Brigade. The Landwehr Bataillon Salzgitter entered the battles 644 men strong, but suffered 83 casualties - the 2nd highest number of the entire 3rd Brigade.
