A First War 78th Infantry Battalion "Winnipeg Grenadiers" Sweetheart Badge

Sterling silver, maker marked "DINGWALL WINNIPEG" and marked "STERLING" on the reverse of the central insignia, maker marked MANUFACTURED BY DINGWALL LTD. WINNIPEG" on the reverse of both maple leaves, 17.7 mm x 36.5 mm, horizontal pinback, extremely fine.

Footnote: The Battalion was raised and mobilized in Winnipeg, Manitoba under the authority of G.O. 103A, August 15, 1915. The Battalion sailed May 20, 1916 under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel J. Kirkcaldy with a strength of 37 officers and 1,097 other ranks. The Battalion served in France and Belgium with the 12th Infantry Brigade, 4th Canadian Division. The Battalion was disbanded on September 15, 1920.
