Footnote: William Samuel Slinn was born on November 5, 1893 in Manchester, England. He was a resident of Toronto, Ontario when he signed his Attestation Paper at No. 2 Overseas Army Service Corps Training Depot in Toronto, on June 3, 1916, at the age of 22, naming his next-of-kin as his mother, Mary Ellen Slinn of Toronto, stating that he had three months' previous service with the 10th Regiment, Royal Grenadiers, that he was not married and that his trade was that of Labourer. Private Slinn survived the war and for his First World War service, he was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
