A Rare Hungarian 35/40 Year Long Service Cross

Two-piece construction, bronze gilt with green enamels, illustrating the coat of arms of Hungary held by two angels mounted to a cross base, 35 mm x 52.5 mm inclusive of its leafed suspension, original triangular ribbon, intact enamels, scattered gilt wear and light contact, better than very fine.

Footnote: After the breakup of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, this prestigious service cross was redesigned with traditional Hungarian symbols. First issued in 1923 for 40 years of service, however, that requirement was reduced to 35 years in 1942.
