Nine postcards, eight approximately 140x88mm, one 148x97mm, all in extremely fine condition, minor scuffing and slightly bent. The postcards show battleships or soldiers on deck. One card shows the Cruiser “Köln”. She took part in the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939) in the non-intervention patrols, went on missions in the North Sea during the early months of the Second World War, before taking part in the German attack on Norway. She was the only ship of her class that survived this mission. In March of 1945, she was sunk by American bombers in the harbour of Wilhelmshaven, yet her gun turrets remained above water and were still operable and used until the end of the war. One card shows the guns of a ship with three biplanes flying overhead. The text reads: “To England we want to sail!” Another shows a soldier ready for action, the caption reads: “Ready to fire a torpedo”.
