An Propaganda Poster in Response to the Japanese “Stab in the Back” at Pearl Harbour by Arthur Szyk; This is an American propaganda poster in response to the Japanese “stab in the back” at Pearl Harbour (December 7, 1941). The original artist is Arthur Szyk, who has published multiple propaganda posters throughout his career as an artist. The poster depicts an American cowboy sitting peacefully on a wooden bench, which being sneakily approached by a seemingly Japanese officer, decorated with a Grand Cross of the Iron Cross and a NSDAP armband, holding a dagger, seemingly wanting to pounce on the unsuspecting cowboy. In the background are Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini, watching as the event unfolds. The poster features an advertisement on the reverse for “The Holbein Girl - Kodachromed by Erwin Blumenfeld”, and measures 339 mm x 237mm. The poster is moderately frayed on the left edge, which a few very small rips on the right edge. Overall better than fine condition, with vivid colours.
