A Single-Decal Decal M42 Wehrmacht Heer (Army) Stahlhelm by Vereinigte Deutsche Nickelwerke; A single-decal Wehrmacht Heer (Army) steel helmet by the Vereinigte Deutsche Nickelwerke. The helmet is crafted of a sheet of molybdenum steel (magnetic), and is painted in a standard dark apple-green colour. It features stamped air vents on either side of the helmet, with a crude unrolled/crimped rim along the entire helmet, making this a signature M42 type helmet. The interior features a very worn standard eight-panel butterscotch-coloured leather lined, with the standard design featuring five stamped ventilation holes, with an additional hole at the tip of the drawstring. The drawstring is constructed of tan-coloured twisted rayon. The headband is in good condition, but the majority of the panels have ripped off and become separated from the remainder of the liner. The two-piece chin strap is constructed of medium-thick black leather. It is complete, but appears to have been fixed on each side where the leather strap loops through the steel buckles. The steel buckles themselves are firmly attached to the liner’s frame of the helmet. The underside of the skirt is stamped “B4627”, and is maker marked “NS 64” below the left chin strap buckle. 287 mm x 243 mm. The paint on the exterior is moderately well preserved, with scattered chips of the apple green paint, thus revealing the bare steel underneath, but without signs of corrosion. The interior paint is well preserved, but also with scattered chips of the paint. Overall, the right side of the helmet and scattered spots on the inside of the helmet depict very light traces of green paint spray. As mentioned above, the liner is in poor condition, due to multiple panels having been ripped/separated from the liner. The strap was previously repaired and depicts a single small rip. The frame remains firmly attached to the interior of the helmet via its three attachment clips. Overall near very fine condition.
