(Panzerkampfabzeichen in Silber). Instituted 20.12.1939 by Generalfeldmarschall Walther von Braunchitsch. (Issued 1939-1945). Constructed of oval shaped silvered zink, the obverse with a border of oak leaves with a tie at the base and a Panzerkampfwagen IV superimposed in the centre on grassy ground, with its left tank track extending over the edge of the badge, the reverse plain, with a sheet metal hinge and a round wire catch, an unmarked example, but displaying typical manufacturing characteristics of "Frank & Reif, Stuttgart" such as the die flaw on the outer edge of the oak leaf to the left of the eagle, measuring 42.15 mm (w) x 60.18 mm (h), weighing 34.4 grams, with some of the original silvering remaining, overall in near very fine condition.
